Countdown to Launch

The Motus is coming. It's been a long adventure from concept to prototype to testing/development to production machines - but we are almost there. As we work to finish testing of the newest American motorcycles — the MST and MST-R — we've pulled down our old site and created this blog to let you see behind the scenes in the final stages of development. We'll talk about the people behind Motus, our design philosophy, upcoming events, technical specs and maybe even some of our favorite rides. In the coming weeks, we'll launch our new website and begin rolling motorcycles out to our dealers across the country. We invite you to come back often and join the conversation.

ABOUT MOTUS

Beautiful motorcycle. As a lifetime rider and sport-tourer, I have to ask: Why no shaft drive?

I ride hundreds of miles a day. Multi-thousand mile road trips. A chain means oiling it twice a day, changing chains and sometimes sprockets mid-trip.

To compete with the best Sport-Tourers, such as the BMWs, FJR, Concours, the MOTUS must have a shaft-drive, or a belt at a minimum.

I can hope, right?

Thanks, David! You sound like our kinda guy. As to your question about final drive selection, chain technology has come a long way in the last 5 years and an internally lubricated XW-ring chain is much, much different from the o-ring chains that needed maintenance/replacement as you’ve mentioned. The XW-ring chain on the MST is a whole new level of quality and durability which is why we offer it with a 20,000 mile warranty. Recently, our 530 xw-ring chain was run from max torque to max power in a sawtooth pattern for 20,000 miles. In that hellish test, the chain stretched 1/10 of one link, roughly the size of one rivet- over 20,000 miles! Couple that to our hybrid sprocket, which has an unlimited warranty and the MST final drive is extremely robust and low maintenance. As all MST’s come standard with centerstands, the maintenance/lubrication interval is around 2 minutes for every 15-20 hours of riding. For most performance oriented riders, that is an acceptable level of maintenance given the vast performance advantages vs. shaft-final drives.
