Fuller Moto does it AGAIN!

Bryan Fuller is, simply put, a blast to work with. Crazily skilled with metal fab (he literally wrote the book on it), Fuller is also a visionary with a keen sense of what’s cool- or will be cool once he’s finished with it.

Fuller doesn’t take himself too seriously, but he orchestrates a team of master craftsmen at Fuller Moto through some outrageous builds seen here.

So, we were glad he decided to drop the American V4 in a Campagna T-Rex and give the vehicle a little facelift. Brief video below, what a riot to drive!

TwoWheelObsession on-board ride review. This reviewer did a great job detailing the features and ride quality of the MST…while riding! Ride starts at the 1:00 mark.

“It’s the most powerful streetbike you will ever ride, in a frame and weight configuration that fits bikes 1/2 its power. Think VMAX on steroids in a FZ09. No joke. Everything simply works – it’s refined and uses many automotive parts and features making it one of the most maintenance free bikes on the planet.”TwoWheelObsession, June 2016

Jay Leno’s Garage – Video

leno_fb_link_mob
It’s 2016, and here we are standing inside a warehouse in Burbank, Ca, with what has to be one of the most impressive, and thoughtfully curated car collections in the entire world. Talking to a man who has interviewed presidents, and, well, just about every important person or celebrity in the last 30 years. Our heads are spinning. And then we realize he’s interviewed Kevin Bacon 23 times, so there’s that. Jay Leno is a connector, a living legend himself and, without a doubt, a professional interviewer. He’s pretty funny, too.

So why are we here? What’s so great about a handful of dreamers, who in the depth of a 2008 global economy meltdown decided to bootstrap a business plan together and lock themselves in a “woodshed” with a Tier 1 automotive engineering powerhouse (read:Pratt & Miller) for the next 3 years developing a new “American motorcycle”? After all, it’s fairly well established what an American motorcycle should look like, right? Who are WE to change that? All we did was ask ourselves, “why can’t America make a sportier motorcycle to compete with the rest of the world?” What’s so hard about that? People told us no one would buy it. Americans only want “nostalgia” Really? Buell had a pretty good run. And how do BMW, Triumph, Ducati, Yamaha, Honda, and every other non-American motorcycle for that matter sell their bikes in the U.S.? Who buys all THOSE bikes?

So, that became our plan. And in 2011, we pulled the sheet off of what we considered to be a completely different direction for American motorcycles. The prototype was so believable, magazines put it on covers claiming “it’s here!” But, it wasn’t here. We had to produce the thing after all, which took an appropriate amount of time to engineer an entire powertrain and motorcycle, certify it and set up a production line. Never the less, we persevered. We struck a chord with a small group of enthusiasts early on, and have been shipping production bikes all over the country ever since the middle of 2015. I love it when a plan comes together.

Where to next? V-twin cruisers are America’s heritage, there’s no doubt about that. They are the mainstream. They sell in droves from $10k to $40k and are probably not going anywhere for a while. As for the rest of the motorcycling population, Motus is working hard for you. We make a sport-tourer, they start at $30k, and people are buying them as fast as we can make them. But, that’s not where this “crazy” plan ends. We have only just crossed the starting line. Now we ask, what’s standing in our way of becoming the next Triumph or BMW here in America? Is it adding more models, more dealers or more features to appeal to a wider market? All of the above? Well, I suspect those with deep pockets, the big OEMs, they know the answer to this. Maybe with a little attention, we may find that answer knocking on our door.

In the meantime, we continue to grow. We are becoming the motor company we dreamed we could be. We will continue to put every ounce of energy into cranking out the most visceral American motorcycle we can make, with the kind of hand-built, heirloom quality that can transcend time and last forever.

-Brian

Meet Motus’ Senior Test Rider, Bruce Edmiston

Meet Motus’ Senior Test Rider, Bruce Edmiston. This guy has ridden just about every bike out there over a 22+ year career and is now in charge of a rigorous mileage accumulation program at Motus. Here, Bruce discusses his feelings about riding the 2014 Motus MST and MSTR. No script, no rehearsal- we just put him in front of a camera as he came in for lunch after a 150 mile ride on a cold, rainy Alabama day in March 2014.

V4-Powered RCR Monoposto revealed.

The V4 Baby Block is versatile for a range of applications needing a small, high performance engine from motorcycles to small cars to industrial applications to…anything else you can imagine. Here’s a little video of a really fun build, the V4-powered RCR Monoposto. Built in around a month by Fran Hall and his team at RCR, the V4 is mated to a T5 transmission with a simple adapter plate. Here’s a link to an article on the Monoposto.

What do you want to do with your American V4?

Prices starting around $9000, the V4 is now available for shipment.

Lock and Lean.

At Öhlins’ Cirkus of Speed, we got to spend some time with Mr. Ben Wolfe of Lock and Lean Precision Motorcycle Riding. Beside being a real American hero and a ton of fun to hang with, Ben is a motorcycle cop by day and precision motorcycle riding competitor/instructor after hours. He guides PD’s and individuals on tactical riding and can make his 800 lb Harley do impossible things. We pity the bad guy who decides to evade or run from Ben. He also taught us some new ways to think about safety and low speed maneuvering.

Things got interesting when he comandeered the Motus MST and MSTR (he can be pretty persuasive). After a few quick turns, he was doing full lock to lock maneuvers in his cone course and demonstrated some max braking on his police bike (equipped with trick rear shocks he developed with Öhlins) vs the MST vs MSTR. Impressed, but not surprised that the MST (525 lbs./Brembo calipers/Braking radial master cylinders/OZ wheels/steel braided lines) stopped well short of the 800 lb PD bike, all of us were shocked at how much shorter he stopped when he switched to the MSTR (Brembo monoblocks/Brembo radial master cylinders/BST carbon wheels/steel braided lines). We selected and have refined the MST’s braking system after a lot of work with our partners/vendors, so we know it is very effective, but seeing comparitive back to back braking by a total stranger/expert was eye opening.

“I could catch the s*&t out of people on this.” -Ben Wolfe after riding a Motus MSTR.

Inspiration.

There are few stories of dedication, innovation and pure genius that inspire us like the story of  John Britten. The Battle of the Twins at Daytona in 1991 definitely ranks as one of the top motorsports events that we’d love to have witnessed. We’d hate to guess how many hours we’ve spent staring at and thinking about the V1000 in the Barber Motorsports Museum.

Here is the full length movie One Man’s Dream – The Britten Bike Story. Definitely worth watching for anybody fascinated by the incredible power of human determination, extraordinary talent, and near supernatural skill.
